1Why Tadoba?
Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve is Maharashtra's oldest and largest national park, located about 150 km from Nagpur. It is home to Bengal tigers, leopards, sloth bears, and over 200 bird species. The park is open from October to June, with March to May being the best time for tiger sightings. The reserve covers approximately 625 square kilometres of dense forest, grasslands, and lakes, creating a diverse ecosystem that supports one of the highest densities of tigers in India. A visit to Tadoba is not just a safari — it is an immersive experience in one of the country's most important wildlife habitats.
2Best Route from Nagpur
The most popular route is Nagpur to Warora to Tadoba via NH44. This 150 km stretch takes about 3 hours. An alternative route via Chaprala is slightly shorter but less maintained. We recommend the NH44 route for a smoother drive. The highway is well-paved with good road signage, and there are several dhabas and fuel stations along the way. If you are an early riser, departing at 4 AM from Nagpur gets you to the park gates by 7 AM, just in time for the morning safari. The drive itself passes through scenic countryside with changing landscapes from urban to rural to dense forest.
3Safari Booking Tips
Book your jungle safari at least 2-3 weeks in advance during peak season. Morning safaris (5:30 AM to 9:30 AM) offer the best wildlife sighting opportunities because animals are most active during dawn. Evening safaris (3:30 PM to 6:30 PM) are also good, especially for predators that become active as the temperature drops. We can help coordinate your safari booking along with the cab. Safaris are conducted in open jeeps with a maximum of 6 passengers, and each safari has a dedicated forest guide who knows the terrain and animal movement patterns.
4Where to Stay
Options range from forest rest houses (budget) to luxury resorts like Svasara and Tiger Trails. Most resorts are located near Mohurli, Kolara, and Navegaon gates. We recommend staying at least 2 nights to experience the full wildlife. Budget options include MPTDC forest lodges which offer basic but clean accommodation. Mid-range resorts like Iris Jungle and Tiger Valley offer comfortable rooms with restaurant facilities. For a premium experience, Svasara Luxury Tented Camp and Tiger Trails Jungle Lodge provide world-class amenities with guided nature walks and cultural programmes.
5Cab Fare from Nagpur to Tadoba
One-way fare depends on vehicle type. Sedans are ideal for 2-3 passengers, while SUVs are better for families with luggage. Round-trip packages with waiting time for safari are also available. Contact us for the best rate. For a 2-day trip, we recommend our round-trip package which includes the drive to Tadoba, waiting time during your safari, and the return journey. This is more economical than booking two separate one-way trips and ensures you have a dedicated vehicle throughout your stay.
6What to Pack for a Tadoba Trip
Carry light cotton clothing in neutral colours (avoid bright colours that disturb wildlife), comfortable walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen for sun protection, binoculars for wildlife viewing, and a camera with a good zoom lens. Insect repellent is essential, especially for evening safaris. Carry a water bottle and light snacks for the safari — there are no food stalls inside the park. A small backpack is better than a large suitcase, as safari jeeps have limited storage space.
7What Wildlife You Can Expect
Tadoba is home to over 80 tigers, making it one of the best places in India for tiger sightings. Beyond tigers, you can spot leopards, sloth bears, Indian bison (gaur), sambar deer, spotted deer, wild boar, and over 200 bird species including the crested serpent eagle and Indian pitta. The park's ecosystem includes tropical dry deciduous forest, grasslands, and the Tadoba Lake which attracts water birds and provides water for the park's wildlife. Your safari guide will help identify animal tracks and calls, making the experience educational as well as exciting.
